A look back at our spectacular summer of events!

We’re reaching the end of the summer here in North Yorkshire, and what a summer it’s been! Whereas last year was cool and damp, this summer we’ve enjoyed more sunny and hot days than we can remember. It means that our outdoor terrace has been buzzing at the weekends and into the evenings with happy customers, and our busy events calendar hasn’t been limited by wet and windy weather. For this month’s blog, we’re looking back at the past few months in a review of the summer, before a quick look ahead to autumn.

Demo days, evening shooting and competitions galore!

Our team worked hard earlier in the year to put on a fantastic calendar of summer events, including demo days in May, July and August, our weekly ‘TSG Tuesday’ burger and late-night shooting deal, a new ‘TFC’ menu (Thimbleby Fried Chicken… very tasty!) and competitions too.

We’ve welcomed side by side enthusiasts to battle it out for high gun, hosted top notch shooting in our English sporting competition, welcomed members of our local Army regiment for clay shooting and so much more.

There’s been Simulated Game Shooting throughout the spring and summer, with guests enjoying the diverse and exciting drives, refuelling with superb hospitality before toasting the day at a shoot dinner. If you’d like to join our mailing list to learn more about simulated game day availability for 2026, please click here.

We’ve also had the Young Guns here during the summer holidays to enjoy our new format – clay shooting, time on the air rifle range and then an additional activity, for example archery or game cookery! We’re holding a special Young Guns Day on Halloween itself, Friday 31st of October, so make sure you mark your calendars if you know your young guns would like to come along…

Ladies shooting takes a step up

Our ladies shooting and afternoon tea took place one Saturday a month in May, June and July, and the attendees had a blast! With sessions designed to boost confidence and skills, this gave lady guns the chance to meet like-minded people and enjoy afternoon tea style refreshments afterwards. We’ve also welcomed groups of ladies here on Friday mornings once a month during term time for coffee and pastries and then clay shooting, followed by a glass of fizz. Our Friday morning ladies shooting sessions carry on through to November, so if you’ve missed out then make sure you check out this blog for more details.

We’ve also welcomed several new members of staff since the spring, including our assistant manager Kath Bright, who has started a monthly ladies social evening in the clubhouse. This offers lady guns a chance to tap into Kath’s knowledge of clay shooting and her competition experience. Speaking of competition experience, Kath won a silver medal at the 43rd World Universal Trench Championship in Rome in July, missing the gold by just one target. What a performance and we’re so proud to have her on our team.

Winter opening hours start here…

As we write this our customers are enjoying the last week of late-night shooting before we move over to our autumn/winter opening hours! They will be in operation from the 1st of September until the end of March next year, so make a note of when we’re open:

What’s coming up next?

We’re looking forward to an autumn and winter full of events and competitions, so here’s the lowdown in case you’d like to join us for any of them. Our next competition is on Saturday 18th of October and sees our popular Sportrap competition, returning to Thimbleby Shooting Ground, so make sure you get practicing for your chance to win some super prizes. More details of the autumn and winter competitions and events will be coming soon, and you can register your interest by emailing jayne@thimblebyestate.com.

As mentioned previously, we have a Young Guns Event on Halloween, and ladies Friday morning shooting on the 26th of September, 24th of October and 28th of November. Finally, our Festive Flush is back on the Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of December – it might seem too early to think about Christmas, but we know how popular these days are. We’ll share details of our Christmas menus soon too…

We’ll sign off by saying ‘thank you’ to everyone who’s been part of our spectacular summer of 2025 – we hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as we have!
