After the madness of Christmas, many people like to spend the first month of two of the new year enjoying the peace and quiet of midwinter, hiding inside from the worst of the weather. Not so much here at Thimbleby! Our ground staff have been kept busy making sure the stands all look smart and tweaking the targets. Around 80% of the stands have been altered, so there are plenty of new challenges at every turn. We’ve also sat down with the events team and the diary planning the competitions, simulated game days, young shots days and other events that will take place in 2023. So, without further ado, here are the events you can expect over the next year at Thimbleby Shooting Ground:

Flush Shoot Competition

Our next competition is a flush shoot that will take place on Friday 24th March and will be open to members and non-members alike with some superb prizes on offer (keep your eyes peeled on our socials for more on this). Flush shooting is perfect for teams of friends or for corporate groups, so make sure you spread the word far and wide and start gathering your most talented clay shooting friends.

We also have three further competition dates confirmed for later this year – Tuesday 30th of May, Tuesday 1st of August and Friday 27th of October – so mark your diary to remind yourself to keep them free.

Young Gun Events

We’re holding two Young Guns Events this spring and summer for older children and teenagers who are keen on clay shooting (10 – 16 years old). The first Young Shots Day will take place during the Easter holidays, on Tuesday 11th of April, and the latter during the summer break, on Tuesday 8th of August.

Syndicate Simulated Game Days

Our Syndicated Simulated Game Days are ideal for smaller groups and individuals to join one of our popular simulated game days. They combine plenty of fast-paced clay shooting, designed to replicate a thrilling day in the field, with top notch hospitality and excellent company.  Our Syndicated Simulated Game Days will take place on Wednesday 26th of April and Friday 26th of May and places will fill up quickly, so make sure you register your interest soon.

Ladies Evening Event 

Our ladies’ evenings are always very popular, and we’re pleased to share the news that we’re holding our next one on Tuesday 6th of June. Perfect for experienced and novice guns alike, the ladies night sees attendees gathered into groups depending on their experience level before heading out for coaching on the shooting ground. Novice groups shoot 25 clays while the more experienced guns can rattle through 50 before everyone convenes back in the clubhouse for afternoon tea, fizz and a catch up.

Ladies Simulated Syndicate Day

Our Ladies Simulated Syndicate Day on Wednesday 21st of June is the perfect opportunity for ladies to enjoy the superb atmosphere of simulated game shooting with a group of like-minded women. The shooting will be fun and challenging, the food and drink the same high quality as on a driven game day and, with a date falling on midsummers day, we’re hoping for sunny weather and calm skies!

Durham University Competition

On Saturday 4th of March, the Durham University Clay Pigeon Club will be hosting competitors from universities across the country here at Thimbleby Shooting Ground for their annual competition. While the shooting ground will remain open to members and non-members during the event, and we will do our utmost to minimise disruption to you, it will be a busy day. The competition will only be taking up stands one through to four. Please accept our apologies in advance for any disruption and we thank you for your patience.
