Meet the Team

We’re another step closer to normality now, with our customers able to sit indoors in the cafe of our new clubhouse. Our chef Stephen has been cooking up a storm and creating fantastic breakfasts and lunches for visitors to enjoy after a challenging round on the clays. Our Simulated Game Days are open for booking once again and we’re offering lessons for anyone from total beginners to those hoping to finesse their technique.

If you do visit us for a lesson, you’ll be looked after by one of our instructors, three men who between them have many decades of experience shooting, teaching, competing and loading across the country. Here’s a little bit of background information for the faces you see around the club when you visit.

Philip Thompson

Philip is our senior instructor and the shooting ground manager here at Thimbleby and he has been instrumental in our development, including the introduction of our Sim Days. Philip joined us in December 2019 and has a strong background in the shooting industry in the North of England, having instructed at grounds across the area. Also an experienced in-field instructor, during the game season you’ll find Philip instructing clients on shoot days across the country.

Stephen Dawson

A familiar face to those who frequent the shooting ground, Stephen is an experienced FITASC Level 2 Sporting and Compak Sporting coach as well as a game shooting instructor who specialises in in-field tuition. Stephen is also a qualified CPSA Level 2 (Sporting) coach, CPSA Level 1 instructor and a member of the CPSA Academy offering the basic and advanced Shotgun Skills Programme and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our instructing team, so we’re very lucky to have him!

Dave Marwood

Dave is a BASC accredited coach who has been teaching shooting for 10 years, working with the BASC at game fairs, young shot days and other events. You’ll see Dave regularly here at Thimbleby Shooting ground teaching our customers, and he also offers private lessons in the local area. He has over 40 years of game shooting experience and is a qualified loader, spending much of the game season instructing and loading in the field. Dave enjoys helping adults and children reach their full potential whilst enjoying themselves and developing a passion for shooting.
