Merry Christmas from the Thimbleby team!

We’re nearing the end of the year here at Thimbleby Shooting Ground and we’re reflecting on a successful year. 2022 has presented some challenges, but we have finally been able to see the fruits of our hard work throughout the pandemic. We’ve invested time, energy and funds in the clubhouse, gunroom and shop, as well as the cafe and our events schedule, and it’s been fantastic to see the ground busy, with people enjoying everything we have to offer. Here’s a quick rundown of all the events and changes we’ve made this year!

Sell-out simulated game days

We launched our simulated game shooting days in March 2020, no doubt a date that will stick in lots of people’s minds as it was the same month life started to shut down due to the pandemic… But now, several years on, we’re bowled over by how popular they are, with demand always outstripping the number we can put on! 2022 has seen us put on ? simulated game days, and we are currently planning the first dates in 2023. If you’re keen to be first in line, get in touch to be put on the waiting list now.

Ladies’ nights and junior shots

We’re proud to offer the BASC’s Junior Shots programme to give children and young people their first taste of clay shooting in a safe and encouraging environment. We hold junior shots days during the school holidays which give children a fantastic new hobby! Our popular ladies’ nights also made a return this summer, taking advantage of the lighter evenings for like-minded women of all levels of experience to gather for clay shooting, instruction and some tasty food and drink.

Competitions

We held our first ever side by side challenge this year and it was a great success, with lots of visitors asking us to put them on more often. We also held a competition this autumn open to members and non-members, and the atmosphere was superb, so that’s something we will repeat in 2023 and beyond!

The gun room and shop
It’s been a pleasure to see our retail space with the addition of new brands and products virtually every month this year. The gunroom too is going from strength to strength, and both have now become a destination for those on the hunt for new shooting kit. Our clubhouse was designed to deliver a superb and versatile space for people to gather and to display the best shooting equipment, and it’s a pleasure to see it come together.

The air rifle range

Our air rifle range has had some TLC this autumn after feedback from our customers. We’ve extended the length of the range to 60 yards, made aesthetic changes and made air refills available to shooters, all of which has gone down very well indeed!

The clubhouse cafe

Our fantastic café team has been turning out plate after plate of seasonal and locally produced food, including latterly our popular Christmas menu. The cafe team also does the catering for our events, Simulated Game Days and any corporate and team building days here at Thimbleby.

The last blog of the year is also the perfect time to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported our shooting ground during 2022. We value all our customers, from our regulars who come in groups or pairs for a self-caddied round to those visiting for their first ever shooting lesson and people who meet friends here for a snack, coffee and chinwag in the cafe. We’re looking forward to seeing all of you in 2023 for more clay shooting and airgun fun, and hope you have a relaxing Christmas with friends, loved ones and family. Merry Christmas from all of us here at Thimbleby Shooting Ground.
