TSG Side by Side Competition – Tuesday 2nd of August

We’re pleased to share the details of our first ever Side by Side competition here at Thimbleby Shooting Ground. This special competition will take place on Tuesday the 2nd of August from 1pm to 6pm and it’s open for entries from both our members and non-members.

The competition compromises of a fun and challenging 50-bird sporting course set out around a variety of our sporting stands with some simulated game birds thrown into the mix, and specifically designed for side by side shotgun users by our instructors. There will also be a 10-bird small bore high tower challenge, which includes the use of a shotgun and cartridges for those without a small-bore gun – to earn a place a on Thimbleby High Tower Leaders Board, a place available for each small bore gauge used including 16, 20, 28 and 410.

Anyone with a shooting licence can take part, but the usual rules of a side by side competition will apply. That means you need to be shooting any side by side shotgun to be able to claim a victory, including boxlock, sidelock, hammer and damascus barrelled guns – the older the better! Prizes will be available for different classes including lady gun and junior and we have some superb prizes lined up for our victors, including a free gunsmith service and a 100-clay voucher to use here at Thimbleby Shooting Ground. It’s set to be a really exciting day and we are looking forward to seeing some high-quality shooting and a great atmosphere.

Side by side shotguns have been replaced in many a shotgun cabinet by over and unders, but to some they are still the only way to shoot. Here’s what our Senior Instructor and Shoot Ground Manager Philip Thompson has to say about the day:

“I look forward to welcoming side by side specialists to Thimbleby for this exciting competition – make sure you make a note in your diary and book your space today.”

Entry costs £27 for TSG members and £30 for non-members, and that includes a tasty burger and a cold beer to enjoy afterwards. To learn more about our first ever side-by-side competition and to book your space, just speak to Caroline at the clubhouse or drop her an email –
