For this month’s blog we’re taking you behind the scenes of the Thimbleby gun room, sharing information on what you’ll find on the polished wooden shelves, and our answers to your most frequently asked questions. The gun room was a key element of our clubhouse when it was designed, and it was such a special moment when the team first placed shotguns in the specially made racks when the building was finished in 2020. As well as display racks for browsing the shotguns from leading brands including Zoli, Browning, Caesar Guerini and Beretta, we also have benches so that you can take a closer look at anything that catches your eye…
Our team, headed up by gun room manager Max Cope, is always on hand to answer any questions you have and help you pick out your perfect gun from the sea of options available. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions and answers – and, of course, you can always drop in next time you’re here at TSG and say hello in person.
Can I try before I buy?
Yes, you can. We’re lucky to have a wide range of top notch clay traps to choose from, and that means (if you have a shotgun licence) you can take our demo guns out and see how you get on. We also have a pattern plate available by prior arrangement if you’re keen to see how a gun or choke setup is performing.
I’m looking to purchase my first shotgun, can you help?
We certainly can! Our team can help you find the perfect first gun that will give you confidence and hours of enjoyment on shooting grounds and in the field. We can take you out onto the shooting ground to assess your form and help ensure you get a gun that fits you perfectly. If you’re looking to buy a keen young gun their first ever shotgun, they will get a warm welcome here – we even sponsor a young shot who is competing all over the UK.
Which brands do you stock in the Thimbleby gun room?
We’re a premium dealer for Zoli and our retail manager Max and shooting ground manager Philip recently travelled to Italy with a customer and had the chance to tour the factory. We also stock demonstration guns from other leading brands including Beretta, Perazzi, Browning, Blaser and Caesar Guerini, and can order in any other model if you’ve spotted something on their website that you’d like to try. If you’re after a used gun, we always have plenty of interesting side by side and over and under guns which could be just the ticket!
Can I buy ammunition there too?
Yes – we stock cartridges from Eley, Gamebore, Hull and our own popular brand 247 in the gunroom, and you can choose from club or competition loads and different gauges. If you’re planning to enter a competition or have a day of driven game shooting booked, then we can help you select the right cartridge for your needs – and of course, we have the right rounds for here at the shooting ground too.
I’m not sure my gun fits me very well – can you help?
Our experienced team can measure you and watch you mount and swing your gun to assess how well it fits you. If your gun needs an extension or recoil pad, we can help with that, or some guns come with spacer or shim kits for easy adjustability. If you’re in need of a different gun because yours just isn’t the right choice for you, we can help you sell it and buy a new one.
